The production of natural gas from shale formations is one of the fastest-颅growing segments of the U.S. oil and gas industry today. The U.S. Energy Information Administration鈥檚 Annual Energy Outlook 2012 reference-颅 case scenario has shale gas production increasing from 5.0 trillion ft3/yr (23% of total U.S. dry gas production) in 2010 to 13.6 trillion ft3/yr (49% of the total) in 2035.
