RAPID Manufacturing Institute Appoints Grieco as New CEO
The 91成人短视频 has named William (Bill) Grieco as Chief Executive Officer of the Institute鈥檚 Rapid Advancement in Process Intensification Deployment (RAPID) Manufacturing Institute. Grieco became CEO on August 1, 2018, replacing the interim CEO, Thomas Walsh.
In announcing the appointment, June Wispelwey, AIChE鈥檚 Executive Director, said 鈥淚 am delighted Bill Grieco is joining RAPID as its CEO. His appointment represents AIChE鈥檚 ongoing commitment to strong leadership, and will result in an orderly transition for RAPID.鈥� Remarking on Grieco鈥檚 record of leadership in the chemical industries, Wispelwey said that, in his new role, Grieco will be responsible for all of RAPID鈥檚 operations, including research and development (R&D) activities, corporate governance, and compliance. She noted that 鈥淩APID has achieved many milestones and will now focus on new trends and opportunities for advancing process intensification.鈥�
Walsh added, 鈥淯nder Bill鈥檚 direction, RAPID will further leverage its existing capabilities, AIChE鈥檚 resources, and U.S. Dept. of Energy (DOE) relationships. It will also develop new business models, products, and services to ensure not only RAPID鈥檚 long-term sustainability, but also the continued success of RAPID鈥檚 member organizations.鈥�
Grieco joins RAPID after serving as Vice President of Energy and Environment at Southern Research, a nonprofit research institute based in Alabama, which he helped transform from a business serving only the fossil energy sector to one focused on reducing the environmental footprint of energy generation and chemicals production. Prior to joining Southern Research, Grieco led innovation and technology for Owens Corning, where he built a Front End of Innovation team and led R&D for the $3 billion Building Materials Group. He was also instrumental in winning $13 million in funding from the DOE鈥檚 SunShot program to develop and commercialize a building-integrated solar photovoltaic roofing shingle for residential use.
Earlier in his career, Grieco served as Managing Director and CTO of Gardenia Ventures, where he managed investment due diligence, technology strategy development, and opportunity search and selection efforts for clients ranging from private equity investors to new ventures to Fortune 500 firms. His other senior-level innovation roles focused on process development across multiple industries. These include the biofuels startup PetroAlgae, where he and his team built the first-of-a-kind intensive biomass production process to grow and convert aquatic plants to purified proteins and energy feedstocks. For the biopharmaceutical firm Alkermes, he spearheaded development and commercialization of the VIVITROL and RISPERDAL CONSTA product lines. Grieco began his career at the Rohm and Haas Co.
Grieco serves on advisory boards for the Florida Solar Energy Center and the Georgia Tech Energy Policy Innovation Center. He has been a member of AIChE for 25 years and is a past chair of the Nanoscale Science and Engineering Forum. He earned a PhD and Master鈥檚 degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and a Bachelor鈥檚 degree from Georgia Institute of Technology 鈥� all in chemical engineering.

AIChE Election Ballots Due Oct. 1
The July issue of CEP featured the statements of candidates for the 2019 AIChE Board. The slate of candidates appears below, and the platforms are available online at www.aiche.org/election.
Paper ballots were mailed to AIChE Fellows, Senior Members, and Members on Aug. 13. All ballots and electronic proxies must be received by Oct. 1, 2018.
Election results will be announced on Oct. 29 at the Annual Business Meeting in Pittsburgh, PA, and in the December issue of CEP.

Women鈥檚 Initiatives Committee to Mark 20 Years with Symposium at AIChE Annual Meeting, Oct. 30
AIChE will shine a light on the achievements of women chemical engineers at a day-long symposium on Tuesday, Oct. 30, during AIChE鈥檚 2018 Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh, PA (See pp. T1鈥揟15). Organized by AIChE鈥檚 Women鈥檚 Initiatives Committee (WIC), the symposium 鈥� 鈥淐elebrating Women in 91成人短视频 Engineering鈥� 鈥� is the centerpiece of WIC鈥檚 20th anniversary activities, and will feature invited talks by more than 20 prominent women chemical engineers, all of whom have distinguished themselves through their technical contributions and leadership.
