Carbon capture (CCS) has become an important economic, industrial and environmental issue. However, there are technical aspects you may not understand because they typically aren鈥檛 covered in undergraduate curriculums. Attend this sponsored webinar if you not only design and operate a CCS plant, but also are expected to optimize or troubleshoot operations. You鈥檒l take a focused look at the engineering chemistry鈥攏ot just the process engineering or the chemistry鈥攖hat occurs starting from the carbon absorption unit to the final carbon sequestration step. By understanding in detail the chemistry in each unit, you鈥檒l be prepared to make educated decisions on how to make changes to the process engineering units.
Attend and you鈥檒l examine the solubility behavior of CO2 and other acid gases in water as temperature, pressure and solution composition changes. You鈥檒l investigate the multi-stage absorption of CO2 in alkaline solutions, including the liquid-vapor composition distribution in the absorption column. You鈥檒l explore the multi-stage stripping of CO2 from alkaline solutions, including the liquid-vapor composition distribution and the phase stability of CO2 during transport and the potential for a corrosive water phase to separate from the CO2. You鈥檒l also consider the reactions between CO2 and reservoir brines and rock during the sequestration step.
You鈥檒l leave with a better understanding of why an absorber or stripper is not performing to maximum efficiency as well as how to identify the integrity operating window for CO2 transport. In addition, you鈥檒l have the confidence to qualitatively estimate the capacity of a reservoir for CO2 storage and anticipate side reactions that can cause process disruptions.
You鈥檒l gain a better understanding of:
