The Future of STEM Scholars Initiative (FOSSI) celebrates its 2024 class of 150 FOSSI scholars! Since its inception, FOSSI has awarded over 740 exceptional high-school seniors $40,000 scholarships ($10,000 per year) to pursue preferred STEM degrees at historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

Chayse Selvie: 2024 FOSSI Scholar Attending Howard University

Chayse is from Flossmoor, Illinois, and graduated from Homewood-Flossmoor High School. She is currently a freshman majoring in civil engineering at Howard University. Her passion for STEM was sparked through the ACE Mentor Program and inspired by her freshman-year engineering teacher, Mrs. White. Chayse has interned with leading construction firms and held leadership roles in multiple organizations, including National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. As a FOSSI scholar, she looks forward to using this opportunity to grow as a leader and inspire other young women of color in STEM.

Faith Smith: 2024 FOSSI Scholar Attending Fort Valley State University

Faith is from Warner Robins, Georgia, and graduated from Houston County High School. She is currently a freshman majoring in biology at Fort Valley State University. Her interest in STEM was sparked by anatomy and biology classes in high school and inspired by her father, an electrical engineer. A dedicated student and active volunteer, Faith is passionate about helping others and aims to make a meaningful impact through science. As a FOSSI scholar, she looks forward to gaining mentorship and growing as a future leader in STEM.


    


Aidan Scott Emuakpor Price: 2024 FOSSI Scholar Attending North Carolina A&T State University

Aidan is from Cincinnati, Ohio, and graduated from Saint Xavier High School. He is currently a freshman majoring in biology at North Carolina A&T State University. Aidan鈥檚 passion for STEM is rooted in his curiosity about the natural world and a desire to explore how living systems work. He鈥檚 also a talented golfer, a trumpet player, and a dedicated tutor. As a FOSSI scholar, he is excited to grow academically, deepen his impact, and contribute to the field of science with purpose and passion.

    


Messiah Youssef-Green: 2024 FOSSI Scholar Attending North Carolina A&T State University

Messiah is from Washington, DC, and graduated from McKinley Tech High School. He is currently a freshman majoring in mechanical engineering at North Carolina A&T State University. With a passion for digital graphics, editing, and programming, Messiah hopes to merge art and engineering to design creative solutions. Inspired by his mother鈥檚 resilience and entrepreneurial spirit, he is excited to use the FOSSI scholarship to grow as a leader, innovator, and positive force in the STEM community.
